Ella presented a poster at the 2026 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Denver. Her poster was titled "CA T107 polymorphisms in HIV-1 from lenacapavir-naive people living with HIV (PLWH) do not confer or enhance resistance."
Her research shows two polymorphisms in the CA protein, T107S and T107V, can be found in HIV-1 sequences in people who have not taken lenacapavir, the first antiretroviral inhibitor targeting capsid. While T107N confers lenacapavir resistance and enhances lenacapavir resistance of other CA mutations, T107S/V do not. This is good news for PLWH, but Ella hypothesizes that one T107S codon may be a stepping stone mutation leading to T107N.
Nice job, Ella!
